Waste & Recycling Removal

Effective February 1st, 2009, both the waste and recycling services for Merrimac will be provide by Ray's Trash Service.

The cost for this service is currently $11.00 per month.

Billing is included with your monthly statement from Westfield Public Works.

With this service, each residence is provided upto a total of 3 carts.

You may choose from 2 large waste carts and one recycling cart or vice-versa.

PICK UP DAY/TIME: 

Both Waste collection and Recycling collection services will be provided each Wednesday to residents of Merrimac.

Waste and recylcling carts should be at the curb by 7:00 A.M. each Wednesday.


Service is provided all holidays except Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

If Christmas Day and New Year's Day fall on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, then Merrimac's service day would be Thursday of that week.

Merrimac will not be affected by a holiday schedule until 2012.

Cardboard Boxes (Pizza/shipping/etc.)

Office Grade Paper

GLASS:

Clear, Green or Brown Beverage bottles

Food jars

CANS:

Beverage Cans

Soup & Food Cans

Other Aluminum, Tin or Steel Cans.

PLASTICS :

Soda & Water bottles

Milk Jugs and Detergent bottles

Other Plastics #1-#7

PLEASE BE SURE TO RINSE AND FLATTEN ITEMS WHEN POSSIBLE.

Ceramics

Windows

Lightbulbs

Mirrors

Dishes and Pyrex

Loose can tops

Full aerosol cans

Paint

Chemicals

Biohazard materials

Cooking oil containers

Motor oil containers.

LARGE ITEMS: 

For a fee, large or bulk items will also be picked up on Wednesdays.  YOU MUST coordinate pick up of large items with Ray's Trash Service 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE

at 1-800-531-6752.  Please note there an additional fee for large items.  Fees are set by Ray's Trash Service.

Currently the fee is $10.  Billing will be sent directly to you - not included in your Westfield Public Works bill.

Acceptable items include: stoves, washers, dryers, furniture and other items with weights or volumes greater than those allowed for by Ray's approved containers.

Items which previously contained refrigerants (Freon) such as refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers and dehumidifiers will also be collected PROVIDED that you can provide appropriate documentation showing that CFC's or HCFC's have been properly removed by a licensed technician.

UNCOLLECTABLE WASTES:

Hazardous Materials.  Any waste designated as "hazardous" by the United States Environmental Protection Agency or appropriate state agency.

This includes any flammable/volatile liquids. 

This also includes paint cans or items containing Freon.
